Pack It Up, Pumpkin: Get Ahead of the Holiday Shipping Rush

October has a way of sneaking up on us. One minute, we’re settling into football season and enjoying cooler evenings, and the next, the calendar is suddenly packed with Thanksgiving plans, Christmas shopping, family gatherings and a growing list of gifts that somehow need to make it across town, across the state or across the country.

That’s why October is the perfect time to start thinking ahead about holiday shipping.

At The UPS Store, we see firsthand how quickly the season can go from festive to frantic. A little preparation now can save you a lot of stress later, especially when it comes to gifts that are fragile, unusually shaped, valuable or simply too important to trust to a random box from the garage.

Professional packing can make all the difference. The right box size, cushioning materials, wrapping techniques and sealing methods are important for helping your items arrive safely. Glassware, family keepsakes, electronics, framed photographs, homemade gifts and other special items may need extra attention. Instead of wondering whether you used enough bubble wrap or whether that old box will survive the journey, our team can help determine the best way to pack it.

And yes, we can help with the wrapping side of the season, too.

Holiday gift presentation is part of the fun, but when your shopping list starts growing, wrapping can become another project competing for your time. Bringing your items in early gives you more breathing room and helps turn a holiday chore into something you can simply check off the list.

Shipping early is another gift you can give yourself. As the holidays approach, carriers experience significantly higher package volume. Planning ahead gives you more shipping options, helps avoid last-minute pressure and gives everyone a little more peace of mind. If you already know you’ll be sending gifts to family members who live out of town, there’s no reason to wait until December to start organizing addresses, packaging and timelines.

October is also a great time for local businesses to prepare. Whether you’re shipping customer gifts, employee appreciation packages, promotional materials or products, getting a plan together before the holiday rush can make your busiest season run much more smoothly.

The holidays should feel joyful, not like a race against the shipping clock.

So while you’re pulling out the pumpkins, planning Thanksgiving and beginning that Christmas shopping list, add one more thing to your October checklist: get your holiday shipping game plan ready.

Bring us the gifts, the awkward boxes, the fragile treasures and the “how in the world do I ship this?” items. We’ll help you pack it up, send it out and keep the season moving.
