Fall Is Here: Is Your Heating System Ready?

  • Copied!

As the Oklahoma weather begins to cool down, most of us are finally ready to give our air conditioners a break and enjoy some cooler temperatures. But before you know it, that first cold morning will arrive and we’ll all be reaching for the thermostat and turning on the heat.

Before firing up your furnace for the season, fall is a great time to have your heating system inspected and serviced.

Why Fall Preventive Maintenance Matters

Your furnace has likely been sitting unused for several months. A fall preventive maintenance visit gives a technician the opportunity to make sure everything is operating safely and properly before your heating system is needed every day.

One of the most important parts of a fall inspection is safety. On gas furnaces, we inspect components such as the heat exchanger, burners, ignition system, gas connections, electrical components, and safety controls. We also verify proper system operation, airflow, and thermostat performance.

Small problems found during maintenance can often be corrected before they turn into expensive repairs—or a no-heat call on one of the coldest nights of the year.

Comfort and Efficiency

Preventive maintenance isn’t only about preventing breakdowns. Proper airflow, clean components, and a heating system that is operating correctly can help your home heat more evenly and efficiently.

This is also a good time to check or replace your air filter. A dirty filter can restrict airflow, reduce efficiency, and put unnecessary strain on your equipment.

Just like changing the oil in your vehicle, routine HVAC maintenance can help extend the life of your equipment and keep it performing the way it was designed to.

Don’t Forget About Indoor Air Quality

As temperatures drop, we spend more time indoors with the doors and windows closed. That makes fall a great time to think about the air your family is breathing.

Indoor air quality products, including whole-home air purification systems such as the REME HALO®, can help improve the air circulating throughout your home.

Fresh-air ventilation is especially important in newer, tightly sealed homes and spray-foam homes. An Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) can bring fresh outdoor air into the home while exhausting stale indoor air, helping maintain healthier ventilation without simply opening a window and wasting conditioned air.

A Little Prevention Goes a Long Way

You don’t have to wait until something breaks to call an HVAC company. A little preventive maintenance in the fall can help provide peace of mind that when Oklahoma’s cold weather arrives, your heating system is safe, reliable, and ready to go.

At McKenna Air, we’re proud to serve our local communities with residential and commercial heating and cooling service, maintenance, repair, and replacement.
