As the holiday season approaches, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on what matters most—our health, the people we love, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing we’re prepared for whatever life brings.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting many wonderful individuals and families throughout our community while providing Medicare education, answering questions, and helping them understand their healthcare coverage options. Through these conversations, one thing has become clear: our health is one of life’s greatest gifts and something we should never take for granted.

Your Health Is Your Greatest Wealth

We often spend years preparing financially for retirement, but protecting our health is just as important.

Medicare provides valuable healthcare coverage, but understanding your options is essential. The right coverage can help protect your finances, provide access to trusted doctors and hospitals, and offer peace of mind.

After all, retirement should be about enjoying life—not worrying about unexpected healthcare expenses.

Being Thankful Also Means Being Prepared

As another year draws to a close, it’s a good time to make sure your Medicare coverage continues to meet your needs.

Medicare Advantage and stand-alone Prescription Drug plans can change annually. Premiums, prescription costs, provider networks, and benefits may look different in 2027.

During Medicare’s Annual Election Period, October 15 through December 7, you have an opportunity to review your coverage and make changes for the upcoming year.

If you have a Medicare Supplement plan, don’t overlook your monthly premium. In Illinois, Medicare Supplement Plan G benefits are standardized, meaning the same core medical coverage is provided regardless of the insurance carrier. However, premiums can vary significantly.

You may be paying more than necessary for the same coverage. While changing Supplement carriers may require medical underwriting, an annual review could uncover opportunities to save.

Looking Out for the Ones We Love

The holiday season reminds us of the importance of family, especially when it comes to healthcare decisions.

Many adult children help aging parents understand Medicare, manage prescriptions, and navigate changes in coverage. One of the greatest gifts we can give our loved ones is helping them feel informed, supported, and confident.

Remember, Medicare is not one-size-fits-all—because people aren’t either. What works for a neighbor, friend, or family member may not be the best choice for you. Your coverage should reflect your individual healthcare needs and financial priorities.

A Season of Gratitude and Peace of Mind

As we enter this season of gratitude, I encourage you to appreciate your health, cherish time with loved ones, and look ahead to the coming year with confidence.

I’m especially thankful for the individuals and families throughout our community who have trusted me to help them better understand their Medicare options.

If you or a loved one have Medicare questions, whether you’re approaching age 65 or reviewing existing coverage, I’m always happy to help.

A Medicare review is free, with no obligation to make a change. Sometimes, knowing your coverage meets your needs provides the greatest peace of mind.

From my family to yours, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good health, happiness, and time spent with those who matter most.

Because when it comes to life, health, and family, there’s so much to be thankful for.
